"It is your turn to say something now Mr. Darcy. I talked about the dance and you ought to make some kind of remark on the size of the room, or the number of couples." (62) - This quote was said by Elizabeth and it helps us understand her character a little more. She isn't afraid to say what she feels and voice her opinion which most ladies at her age keep to themselves.

"The more I see of the wrold, the more am I dissatisfied with it." (92) - Another quote from Elizabeth which relates the the quote above. Again, she is a person who thinks for herself regardless of what society expects.

"Let me take it in the best light, in the light which it may be understood." (94) - This quote was said by Jane when she first found out that Mr. Bingley was moving away. She is trying to think of all the possibilites and excuses for him to leave unexpectedly in a posivie manner. Jane is one of the minor characters who acts as the light at the end of the tunnel and thinks well of everyone. She is innocent and gentle and seems to represent hope and goodness in dark times which is important to this story because the Bennets indure many obstacles.

"Mrs. Gardiner, rendered suspicious by Elizabeth's warm conmmendation of him, narrowly ovserved them both." (98) - Here, Mrs. Gardiner carfully watches the conversation and interactions that take place between Mr. Wickham and Elizabeth and how she thinks they should get married. This shows how desperatly people in society wanted their girls to marry into an upper class. Mr. Wickham and Elizabeth were just casually talking and Mrs. Gardiner automatically thought: "They must be in love!!". Are they really though? Maybe, but can we tell from just a conversation? No. It's almost like talking to a friend and saying: "Hey, man I see that you were talking to (enter name). Do you like him/her??" People in Elizabeth's society tend to jump to conclusions before understanding what actually is going on.

1. "Lady Catherine will not think the worse of you for being simply dressed. She likes to have the distinction of rank preserved"(110). This is Mr.Collin's way of saying that Elizabeth is clearly seen as part of a lower society. Mr.Collins thinks of himself and especially Lady Catherine as better. And by what he says about Lady Catherine, shows that she thinks of herself as someone superior to all.

2. "She would be in nobody's way, you know, in that part of the house"(118). This quote from Lady Catherine about Charlotte shows how even though Charlotte is married to Mr.Collins, she still looks down upon her and sees her as someone of a lower class with no education.

3. "There were some strong objections against the lady"(127). This was said by Colonel Fitzwilliam to Elizabeth when he told her about Mr.Darcy "saving" his friend Mr.Bingley from a relationship. Elizabeth immediately knew that he was talking about Jane and was really offended by it. It showed how Mr.Darcy did not think that Jane was good enough for his friend so he did the impossible to separate them. It also shows how in this society people can just bring together or separate relationships at their own desire.

4. "You may possibly wonder why all this was not told you last night. But I was not master enough of myself to know what could or ought to be revealed"(138). This was said in Mr.Darcy's letter to Elizabeth to explain all of her accusations of him. This shows how the way he could really express his feelings and thought was through writing. There are a lot of letters in this novel which shows that writing was very important in this society. Most of them are long, like Mr.Darcy's, which shows how they took care with writing and used it to express their true feelings on a subject. This means of communication is similar to the communications we use today, texting, e-mail, facebook, most people use these communications to say things they usually would not say in person.

5. "And how much I shall have to conceal"(147). Elizabeth said this in response to Maria's excitement when they are going home. Elizabeth decides that she will not tell her sister Jane what Mr.Darcy did because if Jane finds out that Mr.Bingley still loved her then she will be even more sad. Elizabeth wants to spare her sister that sufferment which shows how much she cares about her sister. It is a quality of Elizabeth that she has a sisterly bond with Jane and is able to have an older female to confide with since she does not really have that bond with her mother.

6. "At present I will say nothing about it"(153). Elizabeth has decided that she will not make Mr.Whickman's greedy past with Mr.Darcy public because she know that she does not have the right to and it will also ruin his life. This shows how even though he decieved and lied to her about his past with Mr.Darcy, she is the better person and will not get revenge on him by ruining him.

7. "Let us hope, therefore, that her being there may teach her her own insignificance"(156). This was Mr.Bennet's response to Elizabeth's protest against letting Lydia go by herself to Brighton. Only Elizabeth saw that Lydia was too immature and young to go by herself to a town full of officers. She knew that Lydia would only be making an idiot of herself and her family by going there. But it appears as if Mr.Bennet could not care less what his own daughter does. This shows his weak side in being a father.

8. "Mrs.Reynolds, either from pride or attachment, had evidently great pleasure in talking of her master and his sister"(165). This shows how much a servant respects his/her master. Mrs.Reynolds only says good things about Mr.Darcy to Elizabeth and her uncle and aunt. This could be how their society was. A servant was part of the family but could only praise and say good things about their masters. But by the way that Mrs.Reynolds keeps praising Mr.Darcy, she might be sincere which is changing Elizabeth's opinion of him.

9. " 'What will be his surprise', thought she, 'when he knows who they are! He takes them now for people of fashion' "(170) This shows how Elizabeth still thinks that Mr.Darcy has not changed and thinks highly of himself. She thinks that he will be surprised when he finds out that this man and woman who look of a higher class are actually her uncle and aunt. But his response to this is quite different from what Elizabeth imagined it.

10. " 'Yes', replied Darcy, who could contain himself n longer, 'but that was only when I first knew her, for it is many months since I have considered her as one of the handsomest women of my acquaintance' "(181). This quote shows how much Mr.Darcy has changed because of Elizabeth. He used to seem as if he thought highly of himself but now he defends Elizabeth, who is of a lower class, against Ms.Bingley by insulting her. It also shows how much he cares about Elizabeth.

11. "And tell my dear Lydia, not to give any directions about her clothes, till she has seen me, for she does not know which are the best warehouses"(192). This quote from Mrs.Bennet shows how the thing she cares about most is having her daughter married. They have not even found Lydia and Mr.Whickman yet and all she is thinking about is the clothes that Lydia will wear for her wedding. Mrs.Bennet says that she cares about her daughters but she sometimes shows the opposite.

12. "What a good joke it will be! I can hardly write for laughing"(195). This was what Lydia wrote in her letter explaining that she ran away with Mr.Whickman. She thinks that it is all really funny how her family are worried about her. This shows how Elizabeth was right about Lydia being immature, she was too young to go by herself to Brighton. But because of her parents irresponsiblilty Lydia is gone.
